Max Veenhuyzen is a food, drink and travel journalist that lives on Whadjuk Nyoongar country in Perth, Western Australia. He has been writing about and photographing the good things in life more than two decades and is the WA state editor for Gourmet Traveller and the Perth restaurant critic for WAToday and Good Food. Beyond his regular journalism work, he co-authored the Burnt Ends cook book with Dave Pynt; is currently putting the finishing touches on the Big Don’s Smoked Meats book; and he also hosts dinners and events around Australia and the monthly Yes Chef! hospitality talk series at new-wave Perth members club, Lawson Flats. He fondly remembers attending the first Truffle Kerfuffle (TK) in 2010 when it was a single marquee at Fonty’s Pool. Nonetheless, he still had a blast then – as well as at subsequent TKs since – and doesn’t want to imagine what WA’s food and drink landscape might look like without the Southern Forests’ marquee event.
